Douglas Union with Frankfield welcomes their new Incumbent

On Sunday evening, 28th May 2023, the Rev. Dr William Olhausen was instituted as the new Incumbent of Douglas Union of Parishes with Frankfield by the Bishop, the Right Rev. Dr Paul Colton, at St Luke’s Church, Douglas.

The Rev. Meghan Farr, Bishop’s Domestic Chaplain, the Rev. Jean Carney, Curate Assistant in Douglas Union, the Rev. Dr William Olhausen, new Incumbent of Douglas Union with Frankfield, the Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, Dr Paul Colton, the Ven. Andrew Orr, Archdeacon of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, the Rev. Rob Jones, and John Jermyn, Diocesan Registrar.

St Luke’s Church, Douglas was full for the occasion with parishioners, clergy and readers from the Diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, as well as guests from Williams previous parish, St Matthias’ Church, Killiney, in the Diocese of Dublin. Also present were the Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr Deirdre Forde, ecumenical guests, and representatives of the community, including the principals and chaplains of the local primary and secondary schools.

The Rev. Dr William Olhausen was presented to the Bishop by the Archdeacon, the Venerable Andrew Orr and the preacher at the service was the Rev. Rob Jones, Incumbent of Holy Trinity, Rathmines with Harolds Cross, and Director of Pioneer Ministry for the Church of Ireland. After the service speeches were given by the Bishop, as well as Roger Flack on behalf of the parishioners of Douglas Union with Frankfield.

Following the speeches, the new incumbent spoke to the congregation and thanked everyone for their warm welcome. He also reflected upon his first experience in the Diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross when he served his first incumbency in the Carrigrohane Union of Parishes from 2004-2008. Afterwards everyone enjoyed the hospitality of the Parish in the Canon Packham Hall next door.

William served curacies in Reading and Cambridge, before serving his first incumbency in the Carrigrohane Union of Parishes from 2004-2008. From 2008-2011 he was chaplain to Monkton Combe School in Bath and since 2011 William has been Incumbent of St Matthias’ Church, Killiney, in the Diocese of Dublin. Alongside his parish ministry, he is the national coordinator for curates’ CME and is a trustee for the Kirby Laing Centre for Public Theology in Cambridge. He is married to Tanya, and they have three adult children – Rachel, Charlotte and Fiona.
