The Dean of Cork, the Very Rev. Nigel Dunne has today announced the appointment of the Rev. Martin Steele as Dean’s Vicar at Saint Fin Barre’s Cathedral.

The Rev. Steele is a native of Belfast (Diocese of Connor) and was educated at the University of Aberdeen (B.D.), St John’s College Nottingham (Prof. Cert. Min.) and trained at the Church of Ireland Theological Institute/Trinity College Dublin (M.TS). He served his Diaconal Placement Year in Killala and Kilmoremoy Group of Parishes (Diocese of Tuam, Limerick and Killaloe). His main areas of interest in ministry are liturgy, pastoral care and service and he is a member of the Society of St Willibrord and of the Anglican-Lutheran Society. Among his wider interests is his love of football, being a season ticket holder with Crusaders Football Club and he is already seeking a season ticket for Cork City FC!
Announcing the appointment the Dean said:
I am delighted to announce that following my nomination of Martin to Bishop Colton yesterday, I have appointed him as Dean’s Vicar. I have no doubt that his obvious love of liturgy and music alongside his deep understanding of pastoral care and the need to nurture people in their faith will greatly enhance the Cathedral’s life and witness.
The Rev. Steele will arrive in Cork at the beginning of August with his installation taking place at the
11.15am Eucharist on Sunday 6th. He will be ordained to the priesthood in the autumn.
