Sun-Up – Youth Easter Dawn Service – in Cork, Cloyne and Ross

It is the time of year when the Cork Diocesan Youth Council (CDYC) would be getting prepared for their annual Sun-Up weekend. This weekend normally begins on Easter Eve with a gathering of young people piling sleeping bags, pillows, coats etc., into the parish hall in Rosscarbery. Followed by a round of Crazy Golf, at the local driving range centre, food, games, challenges and finally finishing off with a movie.

On Easter Day – Sunday – at 6am, the group would make their way down to the Warren Beach to join the Very Reverend Christopher Peters, Dean of Ross, parishioners and some of the locals for the Easter Eucharist Dawn Service at 6.30am. The morning finishes off with everyone’s favourite, the famous BBQ breakfast on the beach.

Unfortunately and sadly, this event will not be happening this year.

Breakfast after Sun-Up in previous years.

After a bit of reminiscing on a recent Youth Zoom, the young people had the idea that though the overnight cannot take place, nor can the Service in person on the beach, maybe the Service could happen via Zoom.

Hilda Connolly, the Diocesan Youth Officer, approached Dean Peters and asked him if he would be willing to get up early on Easter Day to hold the service on Zoom with some of the young people, and also for anyone who would like to ‘attend’ the Service, as was the case in previous years.

Dean Peters was more than willing, and preparation is once again in full motion for this years Sun-Up.

CDYC’s Sun-Up Dawn Service will be held on Easter Day – Sunday April 4th at 6.30am on Zoom.

Everyone is more than welcome so please do join in.

Please feel free to set up our own BBQ at home to make breakfast for your own household (without guests) afterwards!

Please, contact Hilda Connolly on dyo@corkchurchofireland.com for the Zoom login details for SUn-Up.
