Welcome back to church ~ A Message to the Diocese from the Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross

Starting on St Peter’s Day, Monday 29th June, church buildings in the United Dioceses of Cork, Cloyne and Ross will begin to reopen as soon as all the necessary local arrangements and public health precautions have been put in place.

To mark this reopening, the Bishop, Dr Paul Colton, has sent  this video message to everyone in the Diocese.

The Incarnation of the Word of God read by @paulcolton on Christmas Eve. Wishing you a blessed, joyful and peaceful Christmas. The 53rd year of the S.H.A.R.E. Cork collection was inaugurated on Wednesday, 14th December by the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Deirdre Forde, and with the annual blessing of the S.H.A.R.E. Crib on St Patrick’s Street, Cork by the two bishops: Dr Paul Colton and Dr Fintan Gavin. The 802th Anniversary Celebrations of the Collegiate Church of Saint Mary the Virgin in Youghal culminated in a celebratory service on Sunday, 23rd October 2022. The Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, and Warden of the College, the Right Rev. Dr Paul Colton presided over the service, which was led by the Priest-in-Charge, the Rev. Canon Andrew Orr. The Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland, the Most Rev. John McDowell preached at the service. On Tuesday, 18th October, The Feast of St Luke, a Diocesan Service of Thanksgiving to mark the Sesquicentenary of the Foundation of Saint Luke’s Home, Cork in 1872 was held at Saint Fin Barre’s Cathedral, Cork. Saint Luke’s is a voluntary organisation under the patronage of the Church of Ireland in Cork, Cloyne and Ross, and the Right Rev. Dr Paul Colton, Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross serves as President. The Home provides residential, respite and day care services for older people, with an emphasis on Alzheimer care and other forms of Dementia. On Sunday 16th October 2022, the Ven. Adrian Wilkinson, Archdeacon of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, took his final service at St Luke’s Church, Douglas where was presented with his pectoral cross before he is leaving the Diocese to become Bishop of Cashel, Ferns and Ossory. On the previous Sunday, a Diocesan Farewell Service was held at St Fin Barre’s Cathedral during Evensong where he was presented with his episcopal ring. Throughout his last week in Cork, Cloyne and Ross, the parish schools also wished the Archdeacon farewell and thanked him for his many years as their chaplain. On Saturday 8th October, the choristers of the St Fin Barre’s Cathedral Choir and their families embarked on an 8km walk around Mahon Point and Blackrock Village. Thanks to @thenaturalfoodsbakery for the refreshments and cakes! The choristers are raising funds for their forthcoming tour to Amsterdam, Leiden and Haarlem after Easter in 2023. @corkairport with @mjfarrandaway who’s the priest in charge at @shandon.bells to see their new meeting point. During Evensong at St Fin Barre’s Cathedral last Sunday, 9th October 2022, the Dean of Cork, the Very Rev. Nigel Dunne, installed the Dean of Ross, the Very Rev. Cliff Jeffers as Chancellor of the Cathedral and Prepend of Killaspugmallane. Furthermore, the Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, Dr Paul Colton, licensed Dr Simon Woodworth to the Office of Reader.
