Midleton College Students Win First Prize in National ‘Milk-It’ Competition

Fourth Form students from Midleton College, one of the schools in the Diocese won First Prize and are National Champions in the National Dairy Council ‘Milk-It’ competition.  The objective was to investigate and promote the health benefits of Milk for young people.

The Midleton College team – Danny Murphy, Ruth Provan-Bessell, Josh Beamish, Kieran Simpson, Margaux de Waziers and Eoghan Daly  – were praised by the judging panel for ‘preparation, innovation, marketing, teamwork and presentation’.

Three hundred schools entered the competition. Twenty were selected to attend a ‘Dragons’ Den’ style final in the Mansion House in Dublin.

May 1st Sunrise Greeted with Song from Tower of St Anne’s, Shandon

St Anne’s – Shandon hosted its fifth ‘Shandon Sunrise’ at 6.02 am on 1st May . The dawn was greeted from the tower of St Anne’s in song by the O’Boyles (father and son) with Voci Nuove Chamber Choir. This was followed by a celebration of the Eucharist in the church.
This event has become a much loved annual event and marks the ancient celebration of the first day of summer.

Bishop presents Certificates to 45 Children’s Ministry Volunteers

On Saturday 20th April 2013 the Bishop – the Right Reverend Paul Colton – celebrated the Eucharist at St Luke’s Home Education Centre for 45 volunteers who were marking the completion of the Church of Ireland Children’s Ministry Certificate Course.  Also present were the Diocesan representative on the Church of Ireland Children’s Ministry Network (the Reverend Anne Skuse) and experts who had helped to deliver the training course throughout the past six months.  Afterwards the Bishop presented the Certificates to those who completed the course – 41 of them from Cork, Cloyne and Ross, 1 from Kerry and 3 from Waterford.
