The Reverend Daniel Owen, Rector of Kilgariffe Union (Clonakilty, Timoleague, Courtmachserry) in the Dioceses of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, and his wife Sonja are doing a long-planned sponsored run on the 13th June in Kilruddery Estate, Co. Wicklow.  The event has the rather daunting, but catchy, title of “hell and back“!

Daniel and Sonja hope to raise funds for Christian Aid and their local parish school: Kilgariffe National School.

HELL & BACK, describes itself as ‘Ireland’s Toughest Mental & Physical Endurance Challenge’.  It:

is the country’s largest and most popular obstacle course run. We convert stunning private farm estates into adventure playgrounds, where participants must complete a 10-15KM trail route crossing rivers and lakes, climbing hills and mountains and crawling through bogs and swamps. To survive, you must conquer all the elements thrown at you, whether that is the temperamental weather conditions, the gruelling natural environment or the torturous man-made obstacles.

St Anne’s, Shandon, Cork hosts Annual Service to mark International Day Against Homophobia and Transphopia

On Sunday, 17th May, the annual Service to mark IDAHOT – International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia – was held in St Anne’s Church, Shandon. The service was led by the Rev. Sarah Marry, Priest-in-Charge of St. Anne’s, who commented in her welcoming remarks that

the real time for celebration will come when there is no need to hold this type of service at all.  For now it is important that we gather ‘Celebrating Inclusion’ and prayerfully supporting victims of homophobia or transphobia, particularly those in places where holding an IDAHOT service would not be possible.

With the permission of the Bishop, Dr Paul Colton, the address was given by a Roman Catholic Layman, Mr. Ken Curtin, who explored the theme of inclusion as reflected in Scripture and how humanity, in all its rich diversity, reflects the image of God whose nature is love.

Cork’s Inclusive LGBT Choir Choral Con Fusion added to the atmosphere of fellowship and celebration singing a number of pieces, including the recently recorded and released ‘We Love the Same’ written by choir member Karl Fradgley.

The Dean of Cork, the Very Reverend Nigel Dunne, said:

Malcolm has brought the choir to a high standard and has overseen a wide repertoire of music in the Cathedral. He gave much time and energy to the rebuilding of the Cathedral Organ which was completed in 2013, making it one of the best instruments in the country and the largest in Ireland.

We wish Malcolm every blessing as he prepares to retire and ask all our friends for their prayers for the process of recruiting his successor, which begins immediately.
