Three Significant Birthdays Celebrated in Cobh and Glanmire Union of Parishes

On Sunday 19th May, three significant birthdays were celebrated in the Church of St Mary & All Saints’, Glanmire.

The well known and much loved trio of Dorothy Kidney, Anne Geary, and Walter Stansfeld recently celebrated their 70th, 80th, & 90th birthdays.

The occasion was marked with tea and a special birthday cake which was presented immediately after Mattins.

County Cork Church of Ireland Parish nominated for LIBA Award

St Lappan’s, Little Island, in the Cobh and Glanmire Union of Parishes in the United Dioceses of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, has been nominated for a LIBA Award.

The LIBA Awards are presented by the Little Island Business Association, and acknowledge the contribution of members of the business, civic, and residential community to the growth and development of Little Island.

St Lappan’s has been nominated in the category of ‘The Little Island Community Project of the Year, 2019’.

This is an acknowledgment of the refurbishment of St Lappan’s Church and the opening of the church to the business community as a place of reflection and peace.

The award ceremony will take place on Friday 14th June at 7pm, where well-known broadcaster Bibi Baskin will be the guest speaker.

The Rector of Cobh and Glanmire Union of Parishes, Revd Paul Arbuthnot, said:

It is an honour for this parish to have been nominated for a LIBA Award. This nomination is testament to the hard work of the Select Vestry and to the vision of the late Rev’d Adrian Moran who helped to drive this project forward. We are delighted to be an open, inclusive, Christian presence in the midst of this bustling and growing community.

Lord Mayor of Cork Makes Annual Courtesy Visit to Bishop Paul and Mrs Susan Colton

On Tuesday, 21st May 2019, the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Mick Finn, made a courtesy call to the Bishop of Cork, Dr Paul Colton, and Mrs Susan Colton, at their home in Cork City.  The Lord Mayor was accompanied by the CEO of Cork City Council, Ms Ann Doherty.

Due to building works on the Bishop’s House in 2018 the visit was much later in the Lord Mayor’s term of office.  As ever, the visit provided an opportunity to discuss the latest news and developments in the life of the City and the Church of Ireland.  The United Dioceses of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, particularly through the ministry of the Bishop of the Diocese, work in close partnership with the civic authorities in Cork City and Cork County alike.
