Thirteen young people, from around the Diocese of Cork, CLoyne and Ross, together with several leaders, met up on Saturday, April 23rd, to discuss the homelessness crisis in Cork. The group met first at St. Anne’s Church Shandon, for a tour of the church, to ring the bells followed by a discussion on homelessness.

The group then walked to Cork Penny Dinners where they heard about that charity’s work, how many people they feed and what their needs are. The Cork, Cloyne and ROss group then had the opportunity to make some of the hundreds of sandwiches that they distribute to people on a daily basis.

In the afternoon the group headed back to St. Anne’s parish center where a representative from the Simon Community came and talked to about the homeless crisis and what they do to combat it. They showed a short video, gave an overview of their centres and answered questions.

The afternoon ended with a discussion and a short service led by the Reverend Tony Murphy and ended with pizza!

It was a lovely afternoon and gave young people the opportunity to ask questions and find out more information on what they can do to support those in need in their community.
