Cork, Cloyne and Ross Diocesan Synod Meets Today

The Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, the Right Reverend Dr Paul Colton, has convened the annual meeting of the Dioceses’ Synod.  All the clergy of the Diocese together with the elected lay representatives will gather for this annual general meeting at the Rochestown Park Hotel, Cork on Saturday, 6th June.

Each year the Bishop gives an address to the Diocese.  A number of elections to Church bodies take place. The work of the synod’s elected ‘executive committee’, known as the Diocesan Council, will be reported and debated.  Reports will be received also from the recent meeting of the General Synod of the Church of Ireland, the Diocesan Education Committee, Diocesan Youth Council, the Diocesan Healing and Pastoral Care Committee, and the Diocesan Council for Mission. This year too there will be presentations from the Mothers’ Union in the Diocese, and also about the Church of Ireland’s new ‘Dignity in the Life of the Church Charter’ and the related HR policies governing issues such as sick leave for clergy. Exhibitors from a range of Church charities and groups will also be present as exhibitors to explain their work to people from the Diocese.

The Synod starts with a celebration of the Eucharist at 9.30 a.m. in the Church of Saint Luke, Douglas.  Visitors are welcome to attend the Synod but they must be signed in by a member, and they are not entitled to speak or vote.
